Palawan
State University |
|
The Palawan State University had its humble beginnings as a teacher-training institution known as Palawan Teacher's College which was established through Republic Act 4303 on March 2, 1972. In 1984, the School was recognized as Palawan State College by virtue of Batas Pambansa 797, which authorized it to offer other courses in the Arts, Sciences and Technology. The conversion into a state university came a decade later through Republic Act 7818. After 35 years, it has emerged as the premier institute of higher learning in the province of Palawan, with more than 15,000 students and almost 1000 faculty and staff members.
The Palawan State University, the first University in Region IV, has 16 campuses. The main campus situated in Tiniguiban, Puerto Princesa City has six colleges established to fulfill the university's four-fold function of instruction, research, extension and production. It is sprawled on a 20-hectare site where the main bulk of conrete and permanent buildings house the Central Administration and Executive offices, undergraduate colleges and the Laboratory High School. The Laboratory Elementary School, the Graduate School and the School of Law are housed in buildings at the Manalo Campus in downtown Puerto Princesa City.
There are four new extension campuses in the municipalities of Dumaran, Sofronio Española, Bataraza and Balabac. The other campuses are in Northern Palawan, located in the municipalities of Roxas, Tatay, El Nido, Cuyo, Coron, and Araceli; and in the South, Brooke's Point, Quezon, Rizal and Narra. Collectively, they are known as the Extramural Studies Centers (ESCs) under the College of Community Resources Development (CCRD). |
