Lyceum Northwestern University (L-NU)
Lyceum-Northwestern University is a medical college located in the
Philippines.Founded by Dr. Francisco Quimson Duque and Mrs. Florencia
Tiongson Duque in 1969 as the Dagupan City School of Nursing, the
institution started as a single-room nursing school at the Dagupan City
Polyclinic Hospital.
The change in location ushered in a changed of name - from Dagupan City
School of Nursing of Lyceum of Dagupan City. The initial one course
curriculum was expanded to include pre-Nursing, Liberal Arts, Medical
Secretarial Science, Radiologic Technology and Medical Technology. It was,
in a school official's words, "the beginning of a greater expansion that
radically transformed the young school into a fast growing educational
center."
In the latter part of the year, Lyceum-Northwestern spearheaded a
consortium of local tertiary schools and founded the Northern Philippines
Institute of Medicine.
Lyceum-Northwestern became the "first medical school of the North."
In 1979, the following courses were established: Dentistry, Physical Therapy
and the four-year Radiologic Technology and the Business School. Nursing
Department became the College of Nursing.
In 1980, the College of Medicine garnered distinction of having 100 %
Medical Board Exam passers for the year 1980.
In 1983, the FQD Medical Foundation College of Medicine garnered the
recognition of being judged as the third best medical schools the
Philippines and was ranked No. 5 worldwide based from the 1982
Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates Exam Results
(ECFMG) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. International Herald Tribune,

The Lyceum-Northwestern University believes that the moral obligation of any
institution of learning is to prepare the students into productive professionals
and entrepreneurs equipped with the educational modernity, social and
spiritual values to face the dynamism of a global community with the context of
the regional, national and international setting.
The Lyceum-Northwestern University endeavors to pursue the following
objectives:
1. To provide the student program of studies which are relevant, meaningful
and attuned to the times and enriched with the integration of Filipino values.
2. To offer excellent opportunities and provide service in the fields of research,
medical and paramedical programs, science, information technology,
education, entrepreneurship, law enforcement and vocational and technical
programs to the people of Pangasinan and the neighboring provinces through
competent and qualified instructors and adequate state-of-the-art facilities in
an atmosphere of discipline and values.
3. To provide efficient and practical instruction adapted to the needs of
courses offered and state-of-the-art facilities for specialization so that the
student may gain experience for the actual practice of what he has learned.
4. To maintain a wholesome and stimulating environment for the student life
comparable to that which prevails in progressive institutions of similar kind
with intensive training in leadership; emphasis on academic excellence,
character building and a firm foundation in liberal education
5. To establish a meaningful interaction between the students and community
by way of community-oriented institutional co curricular activities designed to
involved their course of study with a strong sense of community spirit.
6. To foster cultural and artistic expression as necessary component of
personal growth and development.
7. To foster social consciousness and greater awareness of the political and
socio-economic situation by way of enjoining active involvement in community
affairs.
8. To establish a continuing linkage with the alumni geared towards the
furtherance of their self-growth while emphasizing their role in the
development of their community
Infrastructure and Facilities:
The Lyceum-Northwestern University School of Medicine is affliated with the
Lyceum-Northwestern General Hospital.
Construction of the L-N Gym and the Construction of L-N Swimming Pool
made Lyceum-Northwestern the only institution in Dagupan City which has
both facilities in campus.
August 24, 2001, Lyceum-Northwestern University is granted the BS ISO
9001: 1994 Certificate of Excellence by the UKAS Quality Management and the
Anglo Japanese American Registrars.
L-NU now has a satellite campus in Dagupan City; the Asiacareer College.
The acquisition of the Asiacareer College took place as L-NU celebrated its
34th Foundation Day. Asiacareer is the second campus to be opened since
Atty. Gonzalo T. Duque assumed presidency in August 1998 |
