The Cagayan State University was established on June 11, 1978 by virtue of
Presidential Decree 1436 merging the Cagayan Valley College of Arts and
Trades and The Northern Luzon State College of Agriculture and
Transferring the tertiary level courses of the Cagayan Valley Agricultural
College, Aparri Institute of Technology, Aparri School of Arts and Trades,
Bukig National Agricultural and Technical School, Gonzaga National
Agricultural and Technical School, Sanchez Mira Rural and Vocational
School and Western Cagayan School of Arts and Trades.
These schools are strategically located in the Province of Cagayan.
The Cagayan State University is mandated by its charter to provide better
services in professional and technical training in the arts, sciences,
humanities and technology. The main missions are academic, instruction,
research, extension and production.
The purpose of the university is to provide advanced education in the arts
and sciences, give professional and technical training; encourage and
undertake research, conduct training and extension services; and
encourage the application of knowledge.
Through a presidential approval dated March 17, 1983, the secondary level
programs of CSU-Aparri, Lal-lo, Gonzaga, Sanchez Mira, were fully
integrated into the university while CSU at Lasam and Bukig were
maintained as extension campuses.
The Cagayan State University, also known locally
as simply CSU, is the second largest state institution
of higher learning in the Cagayan Valley Region, in terms
of enrollment and number of curricular program offerings.
The University was established through Presidential Decree
1436, later amended by Republic Act 8292 by the integration
of all publicly supported higher education institutions in
the province of Cagayan.
The university is composed of 9 campuses strategically located
in the growth areas in the 3 congressional districts of Cagayan;
the Aparri, Lal-Lo and Gonzaga campuses in the 1st District;
the Piat, Lasam and Sanchez-Mira campuses in the 2nd District;
and in the 3rd District, the Caritan and Carig campuses in
Tuguegarao City. Each campus is headed by an Executive Officer
(CEO), equivalent to the Chancellor of the University of the
Philippines except in the campuses of Tuguegarao City where
the University President concurrently acts as the CEO. The
seat of governance of the university is at the Carig Campus,
where the central administration holds office.
The university offers courses in liberal arts, social sciences,
law, medicine and allied professions, business and economics,
natural sciences, engineering, technology, agriculture and
fisheries and teaching, among others. It offers the most number
of graduate and undergraduate courses among all the universities
in the province of Cagayan.

Future Career Options:
This program enables the students to establish themselves as professional
medical doctors. It has been designed to rigorously train them in the forefront of
Medicine and prepare them for the necessary screening tests conducted by the
various Medical Councils and afterwards, for them to successfully establish a
medical practice in their country of origin.

Infrastructure and Facilities:
The university is composed of 9 campuses strategically located in the growth areas.There are around 10,400 college students in the university. Approximately 600
are graduate students while the rest are undergraduates.

The university provides free medical and dental check-ups. Minor ailments are also treated at the medical and dental clinic.
Canteens and cafeterias are found in the campus. These provide mealsand snacks at reasonable prices. School supplies and some grocery items are also sold in the canteen.
Each college/department holds intramural every year with sports as the main activity. A university-wide sports competition is likewise conducted yearly to establish camaraderie among the eight satellites of the university.

Duration and Application:
5.5 years MD program equivalent to M.B.B.S
First part is called the Bachelor of Science and the duration is for 16
months. During this period the students should take part in NMAT tests
(This test is to check their knowledge and shall be 3 times a year)
Then the MD program runs for another 4 years.
Note: Taking NMAT test is compulsory to get into the medical program.
NMAT has no pass or fail criteria. It has percentile scores.
